Spring Fiesta

Mississauga Kerala Association (MKA) is presenting a variety entertainment program filled with dances, singing and a fashion show on Saturday May 8, 2010. This program gives an opportunity for the members of the commuinity to show-case their talents. MKA is a non-profit association and tries to organize these events at a minimum cost. We encourage the members of the community to come and enjoy the evening program.

The program details are:

  • Location: Glen Forest Secondary School, 3575 Fieldgate Dr., Mississauga L4X 2J6
  • Date: Saturday May 8, 2010
  • Time: Hall Opens at 5.30 pm; Program Starts at 6.00 pm; Program Ends at around 10.00 pm.
    There will be a break of half an hour in between.
  • Tickets: Ticket rates are $ 10 for members, $12 for non members, $8 for children 6 to 12 yrs and there is no charge for children 6 yrs and under.
  • Food: A limited number of boxed food will be available during break at a nominal cost of $5.00 per meal.

  • Dance by Rajesh Pisharody
  • Dances by the students of Nrutha Kala Kendra
  • Dances by the students of Nupura school of music and dance
  • Dances by Mississauga Kerala Association team.
  • Songs by: Rajeev and Babitha, Aparana, Jerry, Nethra, Nikita, Mridula and Ravi.
  • Fashion show: by the MKA members and directed by Mamata Madhava


Profiles of some of the performers and groups:

Rajesh Pisharody

Rajesh Pisharody is the Founder Director of Adi Shankara Academy of Performing Arts, hails from Chovvara, close to the birthplace of Adi Shankaracharya. He started his initial training of Mohiniyattam with Trichur Sahadean, under whom he performed his Arangetram. Besides extensive training under Smt. Kusum Gopalakrishnan and Shri Gopalakrishnan in Mohiniyattam and Kerala Natanam, Rajesh has had the opportunity to train under two distinguished gurus in Mohiniyattam, Smt. Gopika Verma and Smt. Jayashree Mundakur. Rajesh has performed in several productions of Smt. Bharathi Shivaji, while he trained under her in Mohiniyattam including Chandrotsavam and Jayadeva's Gita Govindam.

Rajesh is a trained Ottanthullal artist having trained under Shri K.G.Menon and Smt. Harini Radhakrishnan. Rajesh continues to train in Bharathnatyam under Padmashri Smt. Chitra Vishwesharan and has performed in several of her dance ballets including Mary Magdelene (of Poet Vallathol) and Vasudeva Kudumbakkam. He is also a principal performing artiste with the Janak Khendry Dance Company and has performed in many of the company productions including Upanishads, Moods of the Rhythms, Gayathri, Mallari and Chandrkauns, in Canada, Mexico, South Africa and the USA. He has also worked with Menaka Thakkar Dance Company on their dance production, Sitayana.

Nupura school of music and dance

Gayathri Devi Vijayakumar, the principal and artistic director of Nupura school of music and dance has been involved with South Indian classical music and dance for more than 20 years and has learned classical music in traditional Gurukula style under renowned musicians such as P.Madhusoodhana Menon (disciple of maestro G.N. Balasubramaniam), Kunjuraman Nair (disciple of the great Chembai Vaidyanath Bagavathar).

Nrutha Kala Kendra

Nrutha Kala Kendra is a dance school conducting sessions in Bharathanatyam, Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi, Folk and Bollywood styles. Preetha Kandanchatha and Sujatha Ganesh are the directors of the school. Preetha hails from the Kalamandalam system with 25 years of experience under her belt. Sujatha Ganesh, the other director is one of the prominent dance teachers in Canada and has run dance accadamies in the Middle East as well.

Hamilton Malayalee Samajam (HMS) has requested to pass this information on the upcoming '56 Pappachen Memorial Card Tournament' on Saturday May 15, 2010.

Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that the mother of Anna Mathai passed away this morning (April 30th) in India. She was 86 years old. Anna Mathai was the Vice President of MKA for the term 2007 to 2009. On behalf of the Association we extend our heartfelt condolences to the members of her family. There will be a Mass at 10 am on Sunday May 2, 2010 at the Father Michael Goetz Secondary School, 330 Central Parkway West, Mississauga Ontario, L5B 3K6
